methanol vapours explode
a vent is a must, it stops pressure building up in the first place, if there was no vent this could have been caused by simply expanding the contents, an oxygen bottle will explode in a fire even when its empty and that is made of far stronger material than a copper cylinder, I would estimate that less than 40 psi would be enough to turn the concave end of the cylinder inside out and it would make a sound like an explosion, especially if the increase in pressure is caused by gas or air expanding

the concave bottom to the copper cylinder actually acts as a saftey valve allowing the cylinder bottom to turn inside out when pressure is increased, sounds like a good design for a processor.

Mark do what I did weld the lid on after fitting a mechnical fit

methanol vapours didn\'t explode or you would see signs of scorching or fire, the blanket on top would be burned
