Octavia 1.9 ASV timing belt - DIY?
The timing belt on my Octavia is gonna need doing soon and I wondered if anyone has done this DIY or best left to a garage? If you've done it, how difficult would you say the job is?

Cheers

Vijay

I did mine. I found it not too difficult if a little tight to get my hands in. You need to make some shims to lock the cams in position when you remove the belt. I would recommend looking at the workshop manual to see how it is done. You should find the info on line. Do the water pump at the same lime.

Very do able.
Good write ups on myturbodiesel for the alh engine.
Pretty much the same.
Bit fiddly as above.
But plenty of reference points to check your right.
Tensioner is a bit fiddly to do.

Apparently those pages don't work anymore.

Try this
http://pics3.tdiclub.com/articles/pdf/a4timingbelt.pdf

When it says rotate CAM, don't rotate CRANK. When checking it's lined up properly
