Who's clued up on pre-2000 Sprinters and Vitos?
Family member after a van to run straight veg- been looking at Sprinters and Vitos. I've recommended a Toyota Hiace (1996-2002) as it's the same 2.4td engine as in the Hilux.

Biomotors is showing Vitos and Sprinters to be IDI from around 1995-2000. Looks like a 2.3 non-turbo engine. Anyone had one?

Guess they'd be pretty slow, but likely to go on forever if they're anything like other Merc IDI engines.

Rust probably a major factor too?

I believe it was the old, flat fronted type, that had the 2.9 IDI engine and it was non-turbo. The 2.3D was also non turbo. The 2.9 turbo came out around '97 and had a Di engine.

(Mark) 1998 Ford Escort 1.8TD.2nd Lucas pump. Twin tank. 100% UVO. Now sold.
1997 Astra 1.7TD Isuzu. 100% UVO. Now sold.
More Rextons than I can ever eat.
1999 Merc Sprinter 310 2.9Di Twin tank 100% UVO. Dogs need a lift to get in, and ride shotgun.
WMO central heating. Lister 8/1 SOM CHP.

The 2.9 Di won't be any good for straight veg will it? Didn't realise there was a 2.9 IDI, thought they were all 2.3. I'll let him know

My 2.9Di is twin tanked, no good for straight veg.

Good for straight veg?
the banana engined ones are. 96 to 2000. the pug engined ones are not. the turbo ones can have either the bosch pump or the epic pump. as he is running that one on straight veg i suspect it is a ford banana engine.
