Methanol vapour detector
I have just designed and built a prototype methanol vapour sensor using an arduino board, an MQ-3 sensor and a rather posh illuminated LCD screen. It displays methanol vapour level and the max and min values in the last 100 seconds. Also gives a series of audio beeps of increasing frequency dependant on the vapour level.

I now want to take it to the next stage, which is to mount it in a small rugid box but I dont have circuit board making skills. The circuit itself is very simple - just a few resistors really, but it needs to slot onto the arduino nice and tidy. Can anybody help?

Great! The arduino has got a few sets of sockets on it for analogue inputs, digital outputs, power outputs etc. The circuit board would need to have pins soldered onto it so that the board would slot onto the arduino, with a few pathways for the resistors etc. The LCD can be mounted in the box so that the screen is visible from the outside, which is not such a problem at the moment.

if you get stuck give me a shout can design you a board and help get it made, iv got a very good pcb manufacturer in china i use

think you maby going about it the wrong way through, are you just going to plug this board into a uno? an uno\'s 20 quid if you just a single 328 3 quid, and add a power supply or just a 5v regulator.

ive already got a few uno bare boards layed out (just the chip) including a surface mount version you could use just add a power supply to it

what id do is design a board that bolts to the back of an lcd, and use spacers to to bolt it inside a small plastic box i did one on a 4 line lcd the other week.

this is a 4 line lcd, with a 328 bolted on the back of the lcd mounted in a double socket.

Jondanbob - that sounds ideal - way beyond my skills!

I did not expect I\'d find anyone here who has done this. Where do we go from here?

dont think you would need a mega, youd get away with a 328?
thats a 2 line lcd, 2by 16? i su99est you just make the board the size of the lcd, bolt it on the back of the lcd and mount it into a box simple
can do it for you shouldnt take long ive got everything layed out on other boards, really only need circuit diagram
how are you powering it 5v or mains?
pm me, id be more than happy to do it.

That\'s not a mega, it\'s a Due! Drool

So is the finished gadget gonna be called a meth-duino or sniffer-duino?
