Transit with CAV IP on blend?
Hi, I've got about 150 litres of WVO leftover from running a BMW 525TD until the IP seals went and I've just picked up 120 litres of misfuel (I'm told
it's 80% unleaded 20% diesel).
I'm running a 95 Transit with CAV IP on mostly shortish journeys and decided to try and use up some of this fuel.
Working on the theories that I can safely add upto 20% unleaded to diesel and that unleaded is good at reducing the viscosity of WVO, I've mixed up a
small batch of:
12.5% WVO
12.5% Misfuel
75% Diesel
and it seems to be running OK with no noticable drop in performance etc.
Has anyone got any advice or comments on this mix?
Thanks

Even if your misfuel were 100% unleaded its percentage would be no more than 12.5% in your total blend, so it should be perfectly safe to do. On the
other hand, I believe it is reasonable to say that your misfuel was most probably only 20% unleaded (as you stated), which means it was only about 3%
unleaded of the total blend, which seems a bit too conservative for the winter, put acceptable for the summer.

I don't know if your engine is IDI or DI, but either way I thought the CAV pump was similar to the Lucas in which case any amount of WVO risks
destroying the ip. SOme get away with it, others fid the ip fails very quickly. Normal approach with a Lucas/CAV ip would be to twin tank and install
a fphe before the ip.

Its a Direct-injection and the Pump is a Lucas DPS, very similar where its important to the 'usual' Lucas....
I personally would Not recommend a blend of any type with any Lucas/CAV/Delphi type pump.....
Best way would be as has been recommended by countrypaul, is a Proper Twin-Tank, H.E. and use it Properly, purge well and leave till fully hot before
change-over.....

the transits with the Lucas epic system* are pretty crap at best.... lots of people change them over to the bosh pump - and thats just normal folks
running them as standard on diesel !
