my 03 ford connect has problems new pump needed,it is common rail, electric injectors so im informed, done about 400 miles on 100% bio.
Now i have been told that ,this van willnot run on bio 100%,will need new injectors been told about £200.00 each, then will need ford fitting
please is this correct
If it is indeed true, i believe they are correct.I'm sure Hc11 mentioned in a related post in the past that the system ford uses requires not just the injectors being fitted, but then being 'coded' individually to the vehicles ECU!! HOW SH1TE WAS YOUR BATCH OF BIODIESEL TO HAVE SHAGGED THE SYSTEM SO QUICKLY?
The 'Common-Rail' type injector is quite different to the 'normal' mechanical type...
In addition to the 'nozzle' which does the actual fuel injection into the combustion chamber, it also has an electronically controlled valve system
which is subject to wear at twice the rate of a 'normal' injector due to the fact it must inject Twice Per Engine power-stroke.....(This is called
'Pilot-Injection')
As all the injectors 'see' full pressure from the rail at all times when the engine is running/starting, if one injector valve should fail, then there
will be NO rail-pressure, and the vehicle will not start/run.
Its easy to check which one is stuffed.....With all the system assembled and bled through, Disconnect all the return-lines from the injectors, and try
to start engine.....The one that jets fuel everywhere is the stuffed one.
--Lots
of rags needed for THAT test!
The Delphi type fuel-injector used on Ford Common-Rail systems is a 'Coded' type....It has a 17 or 19 digit number, which must be entered into the ECU
via the service-software running either on laptop or the 'Ford Diag' gear, And in the correct sequence for all cylinders!
.
(Bloody daft system, but its good for the Maker, as its even harder for any 'unauthorised' mechanic or garage without the right gear or software to do
ANY work on the fuel-system!--although, I do hear, that the needed software is available for a couple of quid off Ebay!--Long Live the Revolution!
)
Its very unlikely that good Biodiesel caused the issue, unless Delphi have some incompatable materials inside the injector This is very unlikely as
Ford also sell this same system in Germany where B100 is much more wide-spread, and Im sure Ford Germany will warrant the use of BioDiesel fuel
there
.....Thats just your main-Stealer trying to wriggle out of his warrantee
obligations, as directed to by Delphi U.K
Much more likely its just old-age/mileage/poor design thats caused it. Its also Very unlikely that All Four are faulty--My sources, say the Ford
Common-Rails are to quote,....' Dropping like flies, mate....'
Tell them to do the test above to confirm which one is actually faulty...rather than looking at the diag-software--In other-words, Do Some Real Proper
diagnosis instead of relying on 'computer' to do it for them
(although their mechanic 'drones', AKA 'Fitters' are probably Not Capable of such things....)
(the diag-software, will say summit like--No Rail Pressure, Replace all Injectors....)
thanks for your help on this matter,im told it is the pump give up the gost155k on clock, told not bad for a ford connect ,all injectors are fine.
so the long and short of it is bio 100% will not work in a common rail engin, then what mix is safe ???
IS IT ONLY THE FORD ENGIN THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM ????

so a jimmy could be right in a round about way
As my details show I run a 56 plate mundeo 2.2 tdci on b100, I have once had the issue of a gummed filter from poor bio as mentioned by HCII. A quick
change and all fine.
Its now done 23,000 miles about 15,000 of which have been on b100 or at the start a mix.
I now have another issue, that at idle the engine is lumpy like its missing a little, under heavy throttle /load the lumpiness gets worse until the
flashing glow plug light safe mode kicks in.
I have tried a new filter and Wurth fuel additive / cleaner in with Dino to no avail!!
Any one got any clues before I'm forced to head into my local dealership?
All advice greatfully recieved.
DICDOF,
i have been using BD in my 2004 1.8L tdci Fallen Of Rusty & Dangerous & have only had the car for about 2 months, it was fine when i first got it &
so i started to put in my BD, i have done about 1k & been increasing the ratio of BD but have also noted that i started getting problems with the glow
plug light coming on & poor jurky running of the engine , if i turn the ignition off & restart the light goes out & the car is fine again, not
wanting to think it was related to the BD i looked for similar issues others have had on the net & found that the cam position sensor & fly by wire
throttle sensor seemed to be common issues & with ford wanting £72 an hour i changed these to eliminate them , tryed my car again & although it ran
smoother when i booted it the same issue came back, so i booked it into ford who said it could be a blockage of the fuel line/ fuel filter / fuel
metering valve/ injector fault , so i changed the fuel filter & still have the same problem , so the next thing i have just done was to let my fuel
gauge read MT & i put in 1/2 a tank of just dino, since doing this so far i have all my power back , smooth running again & no issues so far with the
glow plug light or rough running, so i am starting to get convinced its to do with my BD, i have done a 27/3 test on my BD & washed it until the water
is clear, when drying i have heated the BD to about 60-65c briefly (1 1/2 - 2hours ) so the only thing i can think of so far is that maybe i have meth
not evaporated in my BD & that this could be causing the issue , until i have done more tests i won't know but its seems i maybe not doing something
correctly with my BD, will post again when i have some more info.
, i'm still running tests & just 1 thing i have tryed is this , when i made my bio i left it in my processor for about 2 weeks ,(it was washed & dryed ) , then i added about 25% dino & reheated to 65c for about 1 hour & frefiltered to 1micron, i let it cool & am now running on this in my car & all has been fine accept for 2 times when the glow plug light did come on under heavy throttle pedal use , apart from that its been running sweet on this bio/dino blend , when i went to running on pure dino the car is 100% fine so maybe i hadn't left my bio sitting long enough for all the meth to evaporate off?, either way with the addition of dino in the blend & letting it sit in the processor its running a lot better so far.
